What is the commission in trading?

How does commission affect my trades?

You might incur a commission fee each time you place a trade and the fee varies depending on your account type. If you select an account type where the commission is $0 per lot, you will not be charged commission. The commission fee can affect the profitability of your trades whenever it applies. Since the commission is a cost of trading, the price of the asset must move in your favour to cover the amount paid in commission to break even. This does not include the spread which must also be taken into account.

Is lower commission always better?

Generally, lower commission is better but it does not always imply lower trading costs. The commission is just one part of the cost to execute trades.
